Home Air Quality Monitors: How Do They Work

As pollution levels continue to rise, have you thought about buying an air quality monitor to know the pollutants in your home? If you don't know how it works before buying, I recommend you read the article below.

Home Air Quality Monitors: How Do They Work

1 How it works?

Indoor air quality monitors are devices used to detect indoor pollutants. Through built-in sensors, the content of different pollutants in the room can be detected. Taking the CO2 monitor as an example, the sensor of the carbon dioxide detector is a gas sensor. This sensor is composed of a gas sensor and some high-sensitivity circuits, which can convert the gas signal into a binary electrical signal, and then convert it into a pollutant concentration value, and display it on the LCD screen.

2 Types of CO2 Sensors

At present, the carbon dioxide sensors with relatively high accuracy and wide popularity are mainly infrared absorption carbon dioxide sensors. The advantage of infrared absorption carbon dioxide sensor is high measurement accuracy, high sensitivity and precision, and is not affected by gas concentration.

In addition, other kinds of sensors have different disadvantages. When choosing an home air quality monitor, the detector that uses infrared sensors should be preferred, and the following sensors should be avoided as much as possible.

Electrochemical gas-sensing electrode carbon dioxide sensor: It belongs to pH sensor, which is easily interfered by various acid and alkali gases, and the glass membrane in the electrode is easily interfered and has a long response time;

Semiconductor carbon dioxide sensor: poor selectivity, high false alarm rate, unstable, and easily affected by environmental factors;

Solid electrolyte carbon dioxide sensor: The material has poor mechanical properties, is expensive, and requires a high temperature working environment.

3  Measurement methods

The CO2 gas sensor based on NDIR technology is the most widely used sensor. It has the advantages of high precision, high reliability, long service life and no cross contamination by gas.

The three core components of the NDIR CO2 gas sensor are: infrared light source, infrared detector and absorption gas chamber. Among them, infrared detectors are usually integrated with narrow-band filters to achieve selective absorption and measurement of detected gases. According to the number of channels of infrared detectors, it is generally divided into two types: single-channel carbon dioxide sensor and dual-channel CO2 gas sensor.

Single-channel means that the infrared detector integrates a photosensitive device and a narrow-band filter, which allows the light with a central wavelength of 4.26 μm to pass through while reflecting or attenuating light of other wavelengths.

Dual-channel, that is, a reference channel is integrated on the basis of a single-channel infrared detector, and 2 photosensitive devices and 2 narrow-band filters are integrated inside. One of the channels allows the light with a central wavelength of 4.26um to pass through, while the other channel staggers a specific wavelength (commonly used CO2, CO, SO2, NO has no absorption), and the signal is relatively stable and can be used as a reference channel.

4 How to choose

According to the above popular science, we know which is a high-quality home CO2 monitor, we need to choose a device that uses a dual-channel infrared sensor. With so many products on the market, which one is the best?

Home Air Quality Monitors: How Do They Work

You can choose AVICHE's best indoor air quality monitor H7-CO2, which uses a dual-channel infrared sensor based on NDIR technology, has better long-term stability, and is less affected by ambient temperature, can monitor CO2 concentration from 0 to 9999ppm.

It is the best indoor air quality monitor launched by AVICHE. You'll also enjoy healthy life with these additional features:

· Two ways of use: desktop and wall-mounted

·  Light reminder: remind you of indoor air changes through light color

·  Alarm function: when the concentration exceeds the dangerous value, a beep sound will be issued to remind

·  Tuya smart APP: Check air quality anytime

· Intelligent linkage: Through the APP, you can link other electrical appliances such as purifiers to enjoy smart home life
